About Paper Straws
ABOUT THE PAPER STRAWS -
The paper straws I’m bringing forth this summer are the best versions I’ve ever seen or felt. The textures are thick and durable and a real mimic to natural straw. However, the weaves and colors aren’t found in natural options. They are stunning and for me, must-haves. This summer I am living in inspiration so color and weave are the muses. The Greenaway Hat shown is mine and I have worn it daily since it was made, I have no complaints, I absolutely love it and it goes with 90% of my wardrobe. The weave is so beautiful and I have a hard time believing it's not natural raffia it's so good. I highly recommend.
What a paper hat can do:
- With proper care your paper straw hat can last years and years (just like straw or felt). My mom has a white paper fedora I made during the Triple Crown Project in 2017. It's still a crisp white, holds its shape, is worn every spring/summer and is one of her best compliment getters. She stores hers in a hat box during the fall/winter season and hangs it from a hook for spring and summer. Her "pinch" is more defined because that is how she likes it. She was able to transform the original hat into her signature style. Shown below is a photo from 2017 when the hat was made and from 2025.
- Would I travel with one? Yes. But I would wear it on the plane and store it either under my seat or in the overhead bin (after everyone settled into their seats). I plan to travel with my Greenaway because of the versatility and sheer chicness and high vibe style. It's my BFF.
What a paper hat can't do:
There are a couple of things to note when it comes to a paper straw hat. While they are durable and hold their shape...
- Paper is not waterproof. No straw is waterproof, but paper is paper in the end. So I am more careful with my paper straw hats. I don't wear them in the pool (but I would wear them to hang around the pool.)
- They are challenging to reshape and they will not go back to the original shape is they are smooshed - meaning if you sit on your hat or lack good care of it, it won't pop back into shape with some steam.
All this said, I wouldn't create with them if I didn't believe in them. And I adore paper straw! I think you might as well.
